This isn't a rough "so many kilograms of pellets per square meter" rule of thumb — it accounts for real climate differences between Latvia's regions and how well your home is insulated. We compute heating degree-days separately for each of the 12 calendar months: for the region you pick, each month's actual average temperature (from the Latvian building-climatology standard LBN 003-19 "Būvklimatoloģija") is compared against your desired indoor temperature — the colder the month, the more heat it needs. Warm months (typically June-August) automatically add nothing, so there's no separate "heating season length" to configure. Insulation is modeled through a specific heat-loss coefficient — the worse a home is insulated, the more heat it loses, and the more pellets it takes to reach the same result.
The result is an estimate for comparing scenarios and budgeting — not a substitute for an actual heat-loss audit of your specific home.
